“Voting Matters” Oxford Square Drive-in Video Screening On Monday, September 28, the Oxford Film Festival and Yoknapatawpha Arts Council co-present; “Voting Matters” a drive-in movie screening in Oxford's CourthouseSquare. The show begins at 7 pm with a slides and cartoons; the video program will start at 7:30 pm.

Those in attendance are invited to contribute their thoughts to a “Make Your Voice Heard Voting Matters Video Recording Booth.” Staff will assist in recordings that will be shown online.

The event, part of “Oxford to the Ballot Box,” is free and the public is cordially invited. Cars will be able to tune in the audio on their radios. Limited socially-distanced seating will also be provided for those on foot.

For those unable to attend, the program will also be streamed on the Oxford Film Festival Facebook page beginning at 7:30 pm. https://www.facebook.com/oxfordfilmfest/ Included are short videos of and by a range of Oxford and Lafayette residents speaking to the importance of voting and their personal experiences and motivations. “Oxford to the Ballot Box” is a community engagement project focusing on the 2020 Presidential elections. The project’s goal is to encourage thoughtful, civic discussion about the election and democracy, reflecting on the vital issues for Mississippi and the country, while providing a public forum for participants’ creative and civic expression.

The project is hosted by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and is made possible in part by a grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council, through support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
